Emergency calls are vital for saving lives and ensuring public safety by connecting individuals to critical services in case of accidents or during crises. The call needs to be routed to the closest PSAP (public safety answering point) where human beings are responding to the call. Beside standard emergency calls between human beings and police, fire, or medical services there is the so called eCall which is a European initiative to reduce response times for automotive accidents, and it has served as a guideline in various countries worldwide in the meantime. An eCall-equipped car automatically dials an emergency numberin a serious road incident. It gives emergency operators information relating to the incident, including GPS coordinates, the time of the incident, and the vehicle identification number.
Emergency calls must work regardless if legacy or brand-new technology is used, if calls are CS or PS based and independent from the end user device. Hence support of fixed phones (PSTN, SIP) as well as mobile phones (2G – 5G) is required. As certain intelligence is provided by the phone (e.g. AML – Advanced Mobile Location) testing with real smartphones and different OS versions is mandatory. For eCall special devices supporting that function need to be used
SEGRON’s test suite for emergency call verifies the availability and performance of the service on real mobile over 2G, 3G or VoLTE networks. Additionally, a proper CLI handling, short Call Setup Times and excellent Voice Quality can be checked.
