Ensuring Superior Voice Quality with HD Voice Over Bluetooth

With the growing demand for clear and reliable communication, HD Voice emerges as an important innovation, enhancing the clarity and quality of voice calls. Another benefit of HD Voice is that calls tend to be longer; when the quality is good, people are more likely to continue talking, enjoying the improved experience.

Introduced and promoted by the GSMA, HD Voice leverages wideband technology to deliver crystal-clear, natural-sounding voice calls. This enhancement is not limited to mobile networks but extends to fixed networks as well. HD Voice provides consumers with greater clarity and reduces background noise, significantly improving the overall call experience. Operators and network vendors benefit from this technology by differentiating their services and enhancing customer satisfaction.

SEGRON's HD Voice Over Bluetooth Testing Setup

SEGRON takes this a step further by verifying the quality of experience (QoE) for HD Voice over Bluetooth calls.

We simulate an end-to-end call scenario between two users, both using Bluetooth devices (headsets or car systems). The audio quality is assessed by comparing a reference audio sample from the first user to the recorded audio received by the second user, providing proof of HD Voice standards and ensuring superior call clarity.

Frequency Analysis: Ensuring HD Voice Standards

The frequency analysis involves comparing the reference audio (REF.wav) played on the A side and the recorded audio (DEV1.wav) recorded on the B side. Listen below and compare the reference audio (REF.wav) and the recorded audio (DEV1.wav) to evaluate the differences:

Recording 1: SWB reference audio played on the A side.
Recording 2: WB audio recorded on the B side.

Why Wideband (WB) Spectrum and Its Codecs Are Important

Wideband (WB) codecs like AMR-WB continue to play a crucial role in the telecommunications industry. WB codecs offer more natural voice quality and better recognition compared to legacy narrowband (NB) codecs. This is particularly important for VoLTE calls, where WB codecs ensure improved speech quality. While some operators have already implemented Super-Wideband codecs within their home PLMN, however, a significant number of calls, especially those involving roaming or between different mobile network operators (MNOs), still rely on AMR-WB codecs.

SEGRON’s testing methodology reflects current market trends, focusing on the Quality of Experience (QoE) for mobile network users who increasingly rely on Bluetooth headsets and in-car systems. By ensuring that these devices deliver the highest quality voice calls, SEGRON helps operators and network vendors meet consumer expectations and stay competitive in the market.

By leveraging advanced testing setups and adhering to industry standards, SEGRON continues to enhance the communication experience for users worldwide. Automated QA testing ensures that HD Voice over Bluetooth meets and exceeds the necessary quality standards, providing superior user experience.
